Drill using core bit: Drill like a professional

In the world of home repair, drilling through concretes is as always expected. Drilling to concretes such as on wall to hang picture frames, glass and tube to insert equipments, granite or any concrete masonry material for such either major usage. Some of these materials may be sensitive and when the drilling process is not done properly then may result to damage on materials as well as the tools and the wasted effort on your part.

Drilling like a professional doesn’t only mean you know how to drill properly but also protect yourself too in any case of accident that might occur. Always wear safety goggles, gloves, air mask and protective suit if necessary before doing the drilling project. Air mask is very important when you’re doing a dry core bit drilling since silica dust may harm your eyes while on drilling process.

Now that you’ve done all the safety standards, looking for the right drilling tool is another factor to consider. The tools to be use are depending on the type of drilling project. The points to be considered are the drilling type whether it’s a dry or wet drilling, the area to drill and the materials to be drilled on. Huge drilling project requires tougher tools like diamond core bit drills which consist of diamond bits bind with metals to achieve smooth and efficient drilling core results. The usual concept is the larger the area to drill on the much expensive the tools are. Though leasing some tools may be a great idea but make sure avoid in damaging the tools since it may cost more than it’s worth and also cuts the project budget.

Here are things to considered mention before drilling:

1. Avoid using Light duty drill for your project. It may not handle too much pressure.

2. Size matters. The right size of the drill bit which is specifically made for specific concretes or masonry.

3. Refrain from using ordinary bit drill. They might easily wear out or dull quickly.

The next thing you need to do is to securely attach the core bit drill to the low - speed electric drill. With your safety goggles or glasses in place, and your air mask and heavy gloves put on, place the tip of the drill bit against the mark where you want to drill. Hold the electric drill steady with both hands. Slowly press the speed button so the bit starts to turn slowly. As the bit turns, and then starts to grab the concretes or masonry surface, gently press the electric drill closer to the surface. As the bit grabs and works its way into the surface, keep pressing the electric drill closer.

Don’t put too much pressure on the concretes. Let the core bit drill do the job. Don't try to hurry the drilling process, though! Keep the drill at a low speed, and slowly work the bit into the surface. If you try to drill through masonry at a high rate of speed, the masonry bit can quickly overheat. If you’re using a wet drilling process, then it is much easier since water may act as lubricant and may avoid overheating of the drilling machine and the core bit.

After the drill bit has worked its way an inch or two into the concrete, brick, or masonry, you should carefully pull the drilling machine back. Remove the bit from the hole it's making and clean off any dust and debris. Then, reinsert the drill bit into the hole and continuing drilling. Repeat this process until you have completely drilled the hole.
